Welcome to the centre of the North Island and New Zealand’s largest lake. Lake Taupo covers 616sqkms and is widely considered the trout fishing capital of the world. A year round holiday destination, there is so much to see and do in the Taupo region, that more than one day is required to experience it all. Fishing

Lake Taupo has some of the most beautiful rivers and streams in the world and Rainbow and Brown Trout fishing is exceptional. Guided trips and charters can be easily arranged for personal tuition.

Day Trips

As our accommodation is in a central location, it is ideal as a base for day trips to:

National Park - 60 mins - walk the world famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing track.

Hawkes Bay - 90 mins - for Art Deco architecture and an excellent wine producing area.

Rotorua - 60 mins - for Maori culture and more geothermal activity.

Waitomo - 90mins - Extensive limestone caves and glow worms, with exciting Black water rafting trips through the cave systems.

Golfing

Ideal accommodation for golfing enthusiasts, we have several challenging golf courses located nearby. These include the International Wairakei Golf Course and Kinloch Golf Course.

Jet boating

Thrills on the river close to the famous Huka falls, Taupo.

Sky-Diving & Bungy Jumping

If that’s not enough adventure for you then there is sky diving and of course New Zealand’s famous bungy jumping right on our doorstep.

Geo-Thermal

Because the whole area is volcanic, there are stunning examples of geothermal activity at Orakei korako & Wai-o_Tapu, including mud pools, sulphur lakes and geysers, not to mention the natural hot pools at Wairakei terraces for you to sit, relax and soak in.

Biking

Mountain biking tracks will challenge the beginner to the most advanced riders. Every year on the last weekend of November there is the famous round the lake bike ride. It features the novice rider to the most elite. Bookings for this weekend are essential.

Shopping & Eating

The town of Taupo is relaxed and friendly, with an abundance of boutique specialty shops, it also offers a wide range of restaurants and cafès.
